How Do You Say Box

Hi everyone,

What have you been up to?

By now you must have realised that CPE is all about vocabulary. How about making the most of this space and exchange some words? I'm sure we'll have a blast, be in our element, get a kick out of it, take (a) delight in it, have a whale of a time, it will be a good laugh, self-indulgent, ...
... well, you got the point ;)

Happy postings,

Lesliê

My pleasure.

BTW how do you say "PIÃO" (the toy) in English?

Cheers

Is it "top"?

Lesliê said...

Yeah! Thanks galore!!!

Let's brainstorm other expressions with the word TOP?

Each one of us lists 5 different expressions and later we create a small paragraph with the each other's expressions (there can't be the ones you listed, ok?)

Eager to see your list

Here goes my list:

1) tops = the highest possible (ex. it couldn't've cost more than $50 tops)

2) at the top of the tree = at the highest rank

3) from top to toe = completely

4) top sth off = successfully give a grand finale

5) pay top dollar = pay a lotta money

Hey Fatima,

to blow one's top = to get angry

Guys,
You've come up with so many expressions with 'top' that I have to sing you a Cole Porter song:
"You're the top!
You're the Colosseum.
You're the top!
You're the Louvre Museum."

Take a bow!

9) top dog
10) out of the top drawer

I blew my top at my sister the other day. She simply stained my favorite tank top with ketchup! The worst thing is I'd paid top dollar for it. It must have cost off the top of my head 80 pounds... To top if off, she started shouting at the top of her voice she hadn't even borrowed it in the first place! She's gone over the top this time.

lololol

PS: I was unsure about how to use OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD
